Rays Capitalize on Late Opportunities
The Tampa Bay Rays defeated the Texas Rangers 7-6 on Saturday, September 5, at Globe Life Field. The decisive runs came in the top of the ninth inning, where the visitors capitalized on errors and timely hitting to pull ahead for good. In that final frame, Caminero singled to center, allowing Mateo to score.
Later, Díaz hit a sacrifice fly to left, bringing in Burger for the final run. This late surge allowed the Rays to overcome a significant deficit and secure the win.
Rangers Strike Back with Grand Slam
Texas fought back hard in the seventh inning to briefly take the lead. Díaz homered to left center, driving in four runs including Burger, Carter, and Freeman. This grand slam, the first of the season for the Rangers, cut the Rays’ lead to one.
However, the home team’s momentum was short-lived. The Rays had built a substantial cushion earlier in the game, making it difficult for Arlington to complete the comeback despite their powerful response.
Rays Build Early Lead
Tampa Bay established control early in the contest. In the second inning, Duran homered to center for 419 feet. The offensive pressure continued in the third when Aranda hit a 412-foot home run to right center.
Palacios added a 371-foot home run to right in the fourth. The fifth inning proved to be the most prolific for the visitors, as they scored five runs. Aranda reached on a ground rule double, scoring Díaz.
