Haldiram's, the Indian snack and sweets company which says its products reach more than 80 countries, is choosing Frisco for its first restaurant in the United States.

The company plans to open Haldiram's Frisco on Sunday, Oct. 11, at 7010 Preston Road, Suite 240, according to an announcement carried by FSR magazine on Monday. The Dallas Business Journal also reported the Frisco debut.

What diners will find

The full-service, casual restaurant covers roughly 4,400 square feet and seats 110. The announcement describes a menu built around Indian street food, thalis and chaats, naming raj kachori, chole bhature, pav bhaji and pani puri among the dishes, with rasmalai and gulab jamun on the dessert side.

The company said the opening lines up with the Navratri festival and that the restaurant will add a special menu of dishes suited to traditional Navratri fasting.

Alongside the dining room, the space includes a counter for traditional Indian sweets and a retail area stocked with Haldiram's packaged products.

Why North Texas

The company called the Dallas area the starting point for a wider U.S. restaurant push, citing the region's Indian community as well as other diners curious about the cuisine. It did not say where or when additional U.S. locations might follow.

Managing Director Pankkaj Agarwal and Rhea Agarwal, commercial director for the United Kingdom and Europe, are leading the expansion. The U.S. opening follows the brand's restaurant debut in the United Kingdom.

"This is an exciting first step in our journey in America," Rhea Agarwal said in the announcement.

Haldiram's traces its start to a small bhujia shop in Bikaner, in the Indian state of Rajasthan, in 1937. The company says it now runs more than 200 restaurants across North India.

Opening-day hours and reservation details had not been posted as of Tuesday morning.
