Danny Jansen's fourth homer of the season left Rate Field at 399 feet and started Texas' climb.
Cody Freeman had beaten out an infield single leading off the fifth. A wild pitch from Anthony Kay moved him to second. Jansen then drove a ball to left, scoring Freeman and cutting an 8-1 deficit to 8-3, ESPN's play log shows. CBS Sports' box lists Jansen 2-for-4 with two runs, three RBI, a homer, a double, and one strikeout. He is hitting .169/.266/.324.
Jansen caught the full game. The Associated Press named Jake Burger, Jansen, and Justin Foscue as the Rangers who homered in an 11-7 loss to the Chicago White Sox. Kay threw 99 pitches, 61 strikes, over 4 2/3 innings before Hicks took over.
An RBI double, then a trip around
Joc Pederson pinch-hit for Logan O'Hoppe in the sixth and singled to right off Jordan Hicks. Freeman flied out. Jansen doubled to deep left, scoring Pederson for 10-5. Foscue then homered to left, 364 feet, and Jansen scored to make it 10-7.
That was Jansen's seventh double and his 15th RBI. He had struck out looking in the second after Burger's 424-foot homer had gotten Texas on the board. In the eighth he popped out to third against Hagen Smith.
Texas scored three in the fifth and three in the sixth and still trailed. Chicago answered Jansen's homer in the bottom of the fifth: Dominic Romo walked, Sal Antonacci tripled him in, and Miguel Vargas singled Antonacci home for 10-4.
Chicago had put up six in the first off Jacob deGrom, who lasted 3 2/3 innings and allowed eight runs on six hits with five walks and two strikeouts. The AP wrote those eight earned runs matched deGrom's career high and were his most as a Ranger.
Nine innings, still short
The Rangers (66-67) finished with 11 hits. The White Sox (69-63) had 14. Line scores ran 0-1-0-0-3-3-0-0-0 for Texas and 6-0-0-2-2-1-0-0 for Chicago.
