Joc Pederson tied the game in the third inning at Rate Field, and that was as close as Texas stayed.

Cody Freeman had reached. Pederson then drove Sean Burke's pitch to right-center, 394 feet on ESPN's scoring play, his 23rd homer, scoring Freeman for 2-2. FOX Sports listed Pederson among its key players at 1-for-3 with a run, the homer, and two RBI.

ESPN's box matches that line and puts him at .237/.332/.482. The Associated Press recap of Chicago's 10-4 win credited Pederson with the two-run shot off Burke.

ESPN's box notes a pinch-hitter flied out for Pederson in the sixth. He started at first base. Texas still lost the rubber match of a three-game series.

Chicago answers, then pulls away

Braden Montgomery had doubled in Chase Meidroth in the second, and Brenton Doyle singled Montgomery home for a 2-0 lead before Pederson's homer. MacKenzie Gore (7-10) lasted 3 2/3 innings: 8 hits, 4 runs, 4 walks, 4 strikeouts. The AP wrote that Texas had won nine straight starts by Gore before Wednesday.

Miguel Vargas singled in a run in the fourth. Sam Antonacci added another. Tristan Peters homered in the fifth, a two-run drive ESPN measured at 362 feet, making it 6-2.

The AP said Peters homered for a fifth consecutive game, matching the White Sox franchise record and the major league rookie mark, and credited him with three hits and three RBI. ESPN's box and FOX Sports both list two RBI on the night.

Doyle's three-run homer in the sixth, 393 feet, made it 10-2. Ezequiel Duran singled in Wyatt Langford and Brandon Nimmo in the seventh for the last two Texas runs.

Pederson was 0-for-1 with runners in scoring position, ESPN's box shows. He also took part in a double play with Duran.

Twelve stranded, still a half-game back

Texas went 2-for-14 with runners in scoring position and left 12 on base. The AP reported the Rangers left at least 10 on in each game of the series and 33 combined. Texas is 66-68, 30-39 on the road. Chicago is 70-63.

The AP wrote that Texas sits a half-game back of Houston in the AL West after the Astros lost 9-3 to the New York Yankees earlier Wednesday. Texas is 3-12 in its last 15 on the road and has now dropped six road series in a row, the first such stretch since 2021, the AP said.

Burke walked eight and allowed two runs in three-plus innings. Sean Newcomb (2-3) threw three scoreless innings for the win. Jonathan Cannon worked the last three innings for his first save since 2024.

Rangers left-hander Cody Bradford (0-2, 3.05 ERA) starts Friday in Milwaukee against Brewers right-hander Logan Henderson (8-2, 2.60) in the opener of a three-game series, the AP reported.
