Seven Frisco ISD volleyball teams begin the UIL playoffs over the next two nights, and two of them arrive having already done something new this fall.
Reedy went 12-0 in District 6-5A, the first time the Lions have finished district play unbeaten, according to a Frisco ISD athletics release Wednesday. It was their first district title since 2021. Reedy reached the Class 5A state final in 2022.
Memorial shared the District 11-5A championship with Centennial. Centennial has a long list of district titles, including six in a row from 2009 to 2014, but this is the first of any kind for Memorial.
"They just play so hard," Memorial coach Jami Dover said in the district's release. "They're gritty and scrappy. They're such a great group."
Thursday
Frisco High claimed the last playoff berth out of 11-5A on Monday, sweeping Independence 27-25, 25-19, 25-15 in a tiebreaker after the two finished level for fourth, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported. The Raccoons (25-14) now face Colleyville Heritage (33-7), a co-champion of District 12-5A, at 6:30 p.m. at Coppell High School in 5A Division II.
Liberty draws the other 12-5A co-champion. The Redhawks (13-21) play Highland Park (23-11) at 6:30 p.m. at Prosper Rock Hill in 5A Division I. Liberty carries the lightest record of Frisco ISD's seven qualifiers, but Star Local Media noted the program reached the 5A Division II state semifinals a year ago.
Wakeland, Frisco ISD's only 6A program, meets Prosper at 7 p.m. at Prosper Richland in 6A Division II. The two have already split a pair of matches this season, according to MaxPreps: Wakeland won in three sets at an Aug. 21 tournament, and Prosper won a five-setter on Sept. 1. Wakeland is 22-18, Prosper 18-16.
Friday
Reedy (28-6) opens 5A Division I against Azle (17-25) at 6 p.m. at Carrollton R.L. Turner High School. Azle needed five sets, the last one 15-12, to beat Fort Worth Chisholm Trail in a seeding match for its spot, per the Star-Telegram.
