Frisco, Texas — With its first pick in the 2026 MLB Draft, Texas selected left-hander Gio Rojas at No. 16 overall on Saturday.
Rojas is a 19-year-old pitcher from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. MLB Pipeline ranked him No. 8 among draft prospects and identified him as one of the top left-handed pitchers available.
The Rangers’ amateur scouting director, Kip Fagg, said the club had planned for different possibilities and was ready when Rojas remained on the board.
MLB reported that Rojas has reached 98 mph with his fastball and pairs it with a sweeping slider and changeup. He finished his senior season with a 0.58 ERA across 72 innings and 124 strikeouts.
