Corey Seager's bat had gone quiet for 15 straight at-bats. One swing in the sixth inning Thursday ended the drought and gave the Texas Rangers the breathing room they needed.
The Associated Press reported that Seager snapped an 0-for-15 skid when he led off the sixth with his 19th home run, a solo shot that made it 3-1 in a win over the New York Mets that closed Texas' home schedule. Per the CBS Sports box, Seager finished 1-for-4 with the homer and an RBI.
Drought broken on the first pitch of a new chapter
Texas already led 2-1 on Josh Jung's two-run homer in the first when Seager stepped in against Mets rookie Jefry Yan. He drove the ball to right for a solo home run that pushed the margin to two runs. The AP noted Yan was another rookie; Zac Thornton had started and surrendered the only other Texas runs on Jung's shot.
Seager had struck out looking at the first-inning chance with Foscue on base and later lined out and struck out again. The sixth-inning homer was his only hit, but it was the run that turned a one-run game into a two-run cushion the bullpen protected the rest of the night.

Francisco Lindor doubled to open the game and scored on Carson Benge's two-out single for a 1-0 Mets lead. Justin Foscue singled in the bottom half, and Jung's 12th homer - a two-run drive to left - flipped it to 2-1. Kumar Rocker (6-11) held that lead through five innings: 3 hits, 1 earned run, 2 walks, 4 strikeouts on 74 pitches.
Robert Garcia, Tyler Alexander and Chase Silseth worked scoreless holds. Jordan Montgomery finished a perfect ninth with one strikeout; the AP called it his second big league save across nine seasons of mostly starting work.
