Rakell Decides It

Rickard Rakell scored the deciding shootout goal, giving the Pittsburgh Penguins a 2-1 victory over the Dallas Stars on Saturday at PPG Paints Arena. The Penguins were the home team, and the Stars were the visitors.

Rakell’s wrist shot was the final goal in a shootout that also included scores by Pittsburgh’s Ben Kindel and Sidney Crosby and Dallas’ Tyler Seguin and Wyatt Johnston. The shootout followed a 1-1 tie through regulation.

Goals Arrive in Third

Neither team scored in the first period or the second, leaving the game scoreless after 40 minutes. Pittsburgh opened the scoring in the third when Connor Dewar converted a backhand for his first goal. Blake Lizotte recorded the assist, and the Penguins took a 1-0 lead.

Dallas answered in the third. Tyler Seguin scored his first goal on a tip-in to make it 1-1. Jason Robertson and Miro Heiskanen assisted on the tying goal.

The teams remained even through the rest of regulation, sending the game to the shootout. Rakell then supplied the deciding finish for Pittsburgh.

Scoring Leaders

Dewar finished with one goal and one point for Pittsburgh, while Lizotte had one assist. Seguin recorded one goal and one point for Dallas, and Heiskanen had one assist.

The Penguins finished the game with a 3-2-1 record and seven points. The Stars moved to 2-2-1 with five points.

Attendance at PPG Paints Arena was 18,192.
