ST. LOUIS — Jacob deGrom turned in another dominant start and the Texas Rangers opened their road series with a 2-1 win over the St. Louis Cardinals at Busch Stadium on June 1.
deGrom set the tone, working five scoreless innings and allowing just four hits and one walk while striking out eight. The right-hander needed 91 pitches, threw 59 for strikes, and lowered his ERA to 3.48 as he picked up the win to improve to 4-4 on the season.
The Rangers' bullpen did the rest. The only run St. Louis managed came on a solo home run off reliever Peyton Gray, and Texas relievers otherwise kept the Cardinals off the board to protect the one-run lead the rest of the way.
St. Louis starter Michael McGreevy pitched well in a losing effort, going six innings and allowing two earned runs on five hits, but the Cardinals' offense couldn't solve deGrom or the Texas relief corps.
