A Collin County jury found Karmelo Anthony guilty of murder Tuesday, June 9, in the fatal stabbing of 17-year-old Austin Metcalf during a Frisco ISD track meet, according to CBS Texas.

CBS Texas reported that Anthony, now 19, had been charged in the April 2, 2025, killing at Kuykendall Stadium in Frisco. The trial centered on whether Anthony acted in self-defense.

Prosecutors argued Anthony intentionally stabbed Metcalf during an altercation. Defense attorneys argued Anthony acted in self-defense. Jurors returned a guilty verdict on the murder charge.

Sentencing

The case now moves to the sentencing phase. CBS Texas reported that a murder conviction carries a punishment range of five to 99 years or life in prison.

ABC News and USA Today also reported the verdict. Dallas Observer reported that Anthony faces sentencing after the conviction.
