The Frisco Reedy volleyball team has shifted to Region I for the 2026 season as part of the 6-5A classification. The seven-team district includes Lone Star, Panther Creek, Denton, Denton Ryan, The Colony, and Prosper Richland. This marks a change from previous years when the Lady Lions competed in Region II against programs such as Lovejoy, McKinney North, and Highland Park.
Reedy opens its district play on Sept. 11 against Panther Creek. The team enters the matchup with confidence following a nine-game winning streak that concluded on Sept. 1 with a victory over Frisco Liberty. That win improved their record to 15-5 as they finish their preseason schedule.
Head coach Rudd noted the shift in competition, stating, “Region I is completely different. I’m excited.” She added that she has not been in Region I during her nearly 20 years in the district and plans to approach the new region with the same goal-oriented mindset used previously.
The Lady Lions have maintained strong performance despite graduating a large senior class from last year’s 21-win team. That group included Charlie Henderson, who played at Xavier University of Louisiana, and setter Paige Hawkinson, who is at North Texas. Rudd emphasized that the current senior class has waited for their opportunity to lead.
Key players include seniors Mariah Akinsola, committed to Sam Houston State, and Bree Benningfield, committed to Stonehill College. Junior Camryn Corso, ranked as the state’s No. 5 prospect for the Class of 2028 by PrepDig, is also expected to join them at the next level. Sophomore Rhys Walker leads the team with 3.1 kills per set.
