Allen is about 9 miles east of Frisco.

Collin County high school athletic programs are turning their attention to the 2026-27 school year as the current academic chapter concludes. The University Interscholastic League released its annual Lone Star Cup standings on Wednesday, recognizing several local schools for their achievements during the 2025-26 season. Walnut Grove secured the 5A Lone Star Cup, while Flower Mound, Allen, and Celina placed within the top five of the standings.

In football, Allen advanced to the Division I 7-on-7 state tournament finals in College Station after defeating its first seven opponents. The Cougars faced Coppell in the championship match, which concluded on the final play of the tournament. Coppell finished the event with a 4-1 record. Other local programs, including Plano, Coppell, and Panther Creek, also qualified for the state tournament, which featured 128 teams competing at Veterans Park and Athletic Complex.

Softball programs saw recognition for individual student-athletes as well. The Texas High School Coaches Association named standout players from Allen and Flower Mound to its annual super elite team for the 2026 season. These honors highlight the performance of local talent across the state.

Baseball also provided notable outcomes for the region. Lovejoy and Lewisville ISD had players named to all-state teams. Additionally, alumni from Lovejoy, Plano East, and McKinney Boyd contributed to the University of Oklahoma baseball team, which won its first NCAA championship since 1994.

District realignment continues to influence local competition. Wakeland is joining the Lewisville Independent School District in the 5-6A classification, creating new matchups in Denton County. Within Collin County, the District 6-6A remains highly competitive, with Allen, Prosper ISD, Plano ISD, and McKinney ISD vying for the top spot in the All-Sports Challenge. The final two years of this district configuration have been described as particularly challenging for the nine participating high schools.

As teams begin preparations for the new academic year, questions regarding the impact of new districts and the status of Allen’s wrestling program are prominent in local discussions. Further details on specific roster changes or coaching staff updates were not provided in the available reports.
