Avelo Airlines has announced plans to launch commercial passenger service at McKinney National Airport, with operations scheduled to commence on Wednesday, November 11. The Texas-based carrier will offer nonstop routes to Las Vegas, Nevada, as well as four destinations in Florida: Fort Lauderdale, Fort Myers, Orlando, and Tampa.
The airline stated that the new operation is expected to generate more than 100 jobs. To attract initial customers, one-way fares will start at $99. Additionally, passengers who complete their bookings through Avelo Airlines before August will receive free checked baggage for their first bag.
Andrew Levy, the founder and chief executive officer of Avelo Airlines, described the launch as a significant moment for the carrier. He highlighted the airline’s focus on low fares, the convenience of using the McKinney facility, and its record for on-time performance as key benefits for travelers.
Local officials have expressed support for the development. McKinney Mayor Bill Cox welcomed the airline’s decision to invest in the regional market and thanked the company for its confidence in the area. McKinney National Airport Director Ken Carley noted that the new service offers residents a way to save time and money by flying from a local airport.
Avelo Airlines entered the market in 2021, marking the first new commercial airline in the United States in 15 years. The carrier currently operates flights to 37 destinations across 15 states, along with two locations in Puerto Rico. McKinney National Airport, which opened in 1979, is located approximately 12 miles east of Frisco.
