Avelo Airlines has announced it will launch the first scheduled commercial passenger service at McKinney National Airport, with operations beginning on November 11, 2026. The low-cost carrier will serve as the anchor airline for the facility, which is located in Collin County, approximately 12 miles east of Frisco. Until this development, the airport has primarily handled general, business, and private aviation.

The airline will utilize the IATA code DTX for its commercial operations at the site. Avelo plans to introduce five nonstop routes during the initial phase of service. The first destination, Fort Myers, Florida, will open on November 11. Flights to Las Vegas and Orlando, Florida, are scheduled to begin on November 12. Services to Fort Lauderdale and Tampa will commence on November 19.

Flight frequencies will vary by destination. Las Vegas will receive four weekly flights on Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Sundays. Orlando and Fort Lauderdale will each be served five times per week. Tampa will have four weekly flights, while Fort Myers will initially operate twice weekly on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

To support the new base, Avelo intends to station two Boeing 737-800 Next Generation aircraft, each configured with 184 seats. The airline stated that the initial investment is expected to generate more than 100 local jobs, including positions for pilots, flight attendants, aircraft technicians, and airport personnel.

McKinney National Airport is undergoing significant infrastructure changes to accommodate commercial traffic. A new passenger terminal is expected to open in late 2026. The facility will cover approximately 46,000 square feet and initially feature four boarding gates, with capacity to expand to six. The terminal will also include a parking area with 980 spaces.

City officials and airline leadership have highlighted the economic and logistical implications of the launch. McKinney Mayor Bill Cox described the announcement as an infrastructure and economic milestone, noting it reflects growing demand for convenient air travel closer to home. Airport Director Ken Carley said the project aims to help passengers save time and money by utilizing a local facility rather than larger, more congested airports in the region.

Avelo Founder and CEO Andrew Levy called McKinney an important step in the airline’s Texas expansion. He cited the airline’s low fares and on-time performance as key benefits for travelers. McKinney had a population of more than 235,000 in early 2026, while the wider Collin County area has approximately 1.3 million residents. Details regarding specific ticket pricing or the exact number of new jobs created remain not yet clear.
