Plano is about 12 miles southeast of Frisco.
The city has released updates on seven transportation initiatives currently in progress or scheduled for the near future, according to the community investment program. The list does not cover every planned improvement in the area.
On G Avenue, crews are set to replace a waterline and pavement between 14th and 15th streets. The scope includes adding on-street parking, enhancing sidewalks, and updating traffic signals. Clay Lipscomb, the community investment project engineering manager, stated the project is in its final design phase, with construction expected to begin in the fourth quarter of 2026.
Work along Spring Creek Parkway at Jupiter Road, Chase Oaks Drive, Ohio Drive, Preston Meadow Road, and Parkwood Boulevard involves new turning lanes, concrete pavement, barrier-free ramp reconstruction, sidewalk replacement, and signal modifications. Lipscomb noted that easements are nearly complete and designs are finished. Construction for this project is estimated to start in 2027.
The city plans to repair a degraded section of the Shady Brook Trail, which is currently closed. Katie Dunham, the park planning manager, said the project will be in the final stages of design this fall, with construction starting in mid-to-late 2027. Additionally, a new 1.6-mille trail extending from Bradshaw Drive to the Dallas Area Rapid Transit Shiloh Station is in the final engineering design phase. Dunham estimated construction for this trail will begin in spring 2027.
Median renovations along 15th Street will include irrigation and tree replacement between Custer Road and Mill Valley Drive, as well as from Independence Parkway to Coit Road. Dunham said the medians will feature 164 new trees. A contractor will examine the medians to determine a starting point, with work beginning July 15. During construction, westbound and eastbound inside lanes between Custer Road and Coit Road will close Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
