The Dallas Stars began their annual development camp on Monday in Frisco, welcoming 35 prospects for a four-day program. Assistant General Manager Rich Peverley, who oversees player development, described the event as a critical learning opportunity. He noted that recent NHL schedule changes, including two added regular-season games, have shortened training camps, making this late-June session vital for assessing player needs.
Participants engaged in on-ice drills and gym testing while learning about nutrition and recovery. Second-round pick Jakub Vaněček attended his first practice after arriving from the Czech Republic. He is scheduled to return to the Tri-City Americans before joining Western Michigan University next season.
The organization also highlighted the value of college hockey for player progression. Assistant GM Scott White and Peverley have recruited college free agents like Justin and Dylan Hryckowian, who recently participated. First-round pick Emil Hemming, returning from the OHL, expressed excitement about the camp helping him prepare for the next stage of his career.
