Mark Hill has been elected mayor of Frisco, defeating businessman Rod Vilhauer in Saturday’s runoff election. Unofficial returns from all precincts show Hill capturing 58% of the vote, totaling 19,632 ballots, while Vilhauer received 14,146 votes.
The contest followed a May primary where no candidate achieved a majority. Hill initially led the four-person field with 35% of the vote, followed by Vilhauer at 31%, Shona Sowell with 21%, and former City Council member John Keating with approximately 13%. This result advanced Hill and Vilhauer to the final runoff.
Hill, an attorney and current Frisco ISD school board member elected in 2023, will now oversee the city’s rapid expansion. His responsibilities include managing traffic congestion, public safety requirements, and long-term infrastructure planning driven by recent corporate relocations and development. Vilhauer, who founded an excavation firm and previously served on the Planning and Zoning Commission, was the opposing candidate.
