The Amarillo Sod Poodles completed a comeback with a 6-5 win against the Frisco RoughRiders on Saturday night at Riders Field. The team secured the victory using only three hits throughout the game.
Amarillo took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning when Angel Ortiz drew a walk and scored on a bloop single by Ben McLaughlin with two outs. Frisco responded in the second inning, tying the score on a fielding error during a Marcus Lee Sang RBI single before taking a 2-1 advantage on a Keith Jones II hit.
The RoughRiders expanded their lead to 4-1 in the fourth inning on three consecutive doubles. They added another run to make it 5-1 after loading the bases and forcing Amarillo starter Wellington Aracena to walk.
Amarillo began its rally in the fifth inning by loading the bases with no outs. Two runs scored on productive outs, narrowing the gap to 5-3. Logan Mercado entered the game from the bullpen and pitched 2.1 hitless innings to keep Amarillo within striking distance.
Ortiz tied the contest in the seventh inning with a solo home run to right field off Frisco reliever Wily Villar. Frisco regained the lead in the eighth inning on a go-ahead groundout by Jean Walters.
