Lone Star football improved its record to 2-0 with a 48-24 victory over Simon Gratz on Thursday night. The Rangers hosted the Philadelphia-based team in Frisco, relying heavily on junior quarterback Trey Wright to drive the offense. Wright, a 5-foot-9, 175-pound player committed to USC, accounted for six total touchdowns in the win.
Wright split his scoring equally between the air and the ground, recording three passing touchdowns and three rushing scores. He connected with senior wide receiver Zach Forbish on all three of his passing touchdowns. Each of those aerial scores covered a distance of more than 30 yards. Forbish is a pledge to Michigan State.
The Rangers opened the scoring with a 10-yard rushing play by Wright. He quickly followed that with a touchdown pass to Forbish. Their second connection resulted in a 65-yard score at the end of the first quarter.
Lone Star led 21-0 early in the game. Simon Gratz narrowed the gap to a one-score deficit by halftime, but the Rangers extended their lead as the game progressed.
In the season opener, Wright finished with 327 total yards in a 41-26 road win over Royse City. During that game, he completed nine passes for 178 yards and two touchdowns while rushing for 149 yards and another score on nine carries. Last fall, as a sophomore, Wright helped lead the team to a Class 5A-I state title berth.
