The City of Frisco is launching a pilot transportation service dedicated to moving people around the historic downtown Rail District. The vehicles are dubbed Rail District Boxcar, a nod to downtown’s railroad history. The free service is operating now.

Two vans will circulate around downtown. One Boxcar seats six, the other seats as many as 12. Currently, there are 13 stops, stretching from World Cup Way to the west to North County to the east. In between, the Boxcars will travel along Main and Elm Streets, even passing through Frisco Square, where it will stop at City Hall. Residents can view a map of the route in PDF format.

When the city began the downtown revitalization project, it removed on-street parking on Main Street in an effort to widen sidewalks and improve walkability. As the city worked to make downtown more pedestrian friendly, it is piloting this transportation service to provide residents and visitors convenient, easy access to downtown merchants.

Brian Moen, Assistant Director of Engineering Services, stated, "When we began the downtown revitalization project, we removed on street parking on Main Street in an effort to widen sidewalks and improve walkability. As we worked to make downtown more pedestrian friendly, we’re piloting this transportation service to provide our residents and visitors convenient, easy access to our downtown merchants."

The Boxcar service hours of operation are as follows:

Friday: 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday: 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday: 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The Boxcar service is the latest public transportation option for residents and visitors. In May, the city launched GoZone, an on-demand ride share service.
