Frisco to conduct overnight mosquito spraying after West Nile virus detection

The City of Frisco announced that it received confirmation that one mosquito pool tested positive for West Nile virus (WNV) this week. In response, the city’s third-party contractor will conduct ground spraying overnight starting at 9 p.m. on Saturday, August 29, through 5 a.m. on Sunday morning.

The same overnight schedule will be repeated on Sunday night, August 30, ending at 5 a.m. on Monday morning, weather and wind permitting.

The treatment is targeted at the Frisco Avalon, Frisco Avalon North, Frisco Springs, and Meadow Hill Estates neighborhoods. A map of the specific treatment area is available as a PDF on the city’s website. This detection marks the 10th positive mosquito pool in Frisco this year. The city maintains a GIS Mosquito Dashboard where residents can view the locations of positive pools from previous years.

The City of Frisco stated that no human cases of West Nile virus are confirmed in the city in 2026. Residents are urged to follow the “Wear, Apply and Remove” precautions promoted by the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) to prevent mosquito bites.

These precautions include wearing long sleeves and pants outdoors at dawn and dusk when mosquitoes are most active. Residents should apply insect repellent every time they go outside, using products containing DEET, picaridin, or oil of lemon eucalyptus.

Additionally, residents are asked to remove standing water that collects in bird baths, French drains, clogged gutters, saucers under potted plants, and splash blocks at the end of gutter downspouts, as mosquitoes that carry WNV can breed in stagnant water.

In accordance with its Mosquito Surveillance and Response Plan, Frisco tests for mosquito pools from May 1 through November 15.
