The City of Frisco confirmed that one mosquito pool tested positive for West Nile virus (WNV) this week. In response, the city’s third-party contractor will perform ground spraying operations overnight.
Spraying is scheduled to begin at 9 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 26, and continue through 5 a.m. on Sunday morning. A second round of spraying will occur from 9 p.m. on Sunday night, Sept. 27, ending at 5 a.m. Monday morning. These operations are contingent upon weather and wind conditions.
If conditions permit, the spraying will target specific neighborhoods: Fairfield Estates, Lakes of Preston Vineyards, Parkside Estates, Plantation Estates, Preston Lakes, Preston Vineyards North, Shepherds Hill, and Stonebryck Manor. A map detailing these areas is available as a PDF from the city.
This detection marks the 13th positive mosquito pool in Frisco this year. The city noted that no human cases of WNV have been confirmed in Frisco in 2026. Residents can view locations and positive pools from previous years via the GIS Mosquito Dashboard.
The Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) urges residents to follow three precautionary steps to prevent mosquito bites: Wear long sleeves and pants outside at dawn and dusk; apply insect repellants containing DEET, picaridin, or oil of lemon eucalyptus every time they go outside; and remove standing water from bird baths, French drains, clogged gutters, saucers under potted plants, and splash blocks.
Frisco tests for mosquito pools from May 1 through November 15 in accordance with its Mosquito Surveillance and Response Plan.
