The City of Frisco confirmed that one mosquito pool tested positive for West Nile virus (WNV) this week. In response, the city’s third-party contractor will perform ground spraying operations overnight starting at 9 p.m. on Saturday, October 3, through 5 a.m. Sunday morning. Spraying will continue on Sunday night, October 4, ending at 5 a.m. Monday morning.

Weather and wind permitting, the treatment will target the Starwood neighborhood. Residents can view the specific spray area via a map available on the city website. This detection brings the total number of positive mosquito pools in Frisco to 14 for the year 2026. No human cases of WNV have been confirmed in the city this year.

The Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) urges residents to follow three precautionary steps to prevent mosquito bites: wear long sleeves and pants during dawn and dusk when mosquitoes are most active; apply insect repellents containing DEET, picaridin, or oil of lemon eucalyptus every time they go outside; and remove standing water from sources such as bird baths, French drains, clogged gutters, saucers under potted plants, and splash blocks at the end of gutter downspouts.

Frisco tests for mosquito pools from May 1 through November 15 in accordance with its Mosquito Surveillance and Response Plan. Residents can monitor previous positive pool locations using the GIS Mosquito Dashboard available online. Additional information on the city’s plan and prevention measures is located at FriscoTexas.gov/Mosquitoes. For questions, residents may contact the City of Frisco’s Health & Food Safety Division at 972-292-5304.
