The Dallas Cowboys are assigning rookie linebacker Jaishawn Barham responsibility for calling the defense in their Week 2 matchup with the Washington Commanders, according to sportingnews.com.
Coach Brian Schottenheimer confirmed that Barham will wear the green dot during Sunday’s game. The move comes after Dallas allowed 28 points in its Week 1 loss to the New York Giants and struggled to contain the Giants’ offense.
Barham, a third-round pick from Michigan, will take on the defensive communication role as the Cowboys prepare to face Washington quarterback Jayden Daniels. Defensive coordinator Christian Parker is making the change before the teams’ NFC East meeting.
Both Dallas and Washington lost to division opponents in Week 1. The Cowboys’ offensive performance against Washington’s defense and Barham’s handling of the defensive responsibilities are among the main developments entering the matchup.
