Texas Tech has secured a non-conference football opponent for the 2030 season by scheduling a home game against Texas State. The Red Raiders will host the Bobcats on Sept. 14, 2030, according to a report from FBSchedules.com that cited a contract obtained through an open-records request.

Under the terms of the agreement, Texas Tech is obligated to pay Texas State a game guarantee of $1.2 million. The addition completes the Red Raiders' non-conference slate for that year. They are scheduled to open the 2030 season against Arkansas in Las Vegas on Aug. 31 and will host Fresno State one week prior to the Texas State matchup.

Despite filling the 2030 slot, the program still requires one non-conference opponent each for the years 2027, 2028, and 2029. This scheduling gap stems from a series of recent contract terminations and cancellations over the past year. Mississippi State canceled a two-game series originally set for 2028 and 2029 without penalty due to a change in the SEC scheduling model.

North Carolina State exercised a buyout option for a 2027 game in Lubbock, and Texas Tech chose to buy out a 2027 road game against North Texas.

The Red Raiders currently have two non-conference home games scheduled for each of the years 2027, 2028, and 2029. The full list of future non-conference opponents shows various financial guarantees attached to these matchups, with amounts ranging from $300,000 to $1 million depending on the opponent and location.

Other notable adjustments in the long-term schedule include a rescheduled home game against Arkansas in 2034, which was originally set for 2030 before the two schools agreed to play in the Vegas Kickoff Classic. Additionally, a 2033 road game at Oregon was moved from its original 2024 date to allow Oregon and Oregon State to maintain their rivalry matchup that year.
