Baylor quarterback DJ Lagway has been ruled out of the team's Week 2 matchup with Prairie View A&M because of a high-ankle sprain suffered in the season opener against Auburn. Nate Bennett will take the first start of his college career, Pete Thamel reported.

Lagway sustained the injury during Baylor's 17-16 loss to Auburn. He completed 27 passes on 54 attempts for 333 yards, two touchdowns and one interception, and remained in the game after hurting his ankle.

Baylor coach Dave Aranda had described Lagway as day to day earlier in the week. On3 reported that Lagway had been attempting to play through the injury but was viewed as doubtful for the Prairie View A&M game.

Baylor scored a touchdown in the final seconds against Auburn but failed to convert a two-point attempt that would have won the game. The loss left the Bears at 0-1, and the source said it was not clear whether Lagway's health affected the decision to go for two.

Baylor is scheduled to host Louisiana Tech next weekend before beginning Big 12 play against Colorado on Sept. 26. Further details about Lagway's recovery timeline were not provided.
