Von Miller has officially joined the Dallas Cowboys on a one-year contract after showing interest in the team throughout the offseason. This addition comes as the Cowboys revamp their defense, which features approximately six new starters and a new defensive coordinator, Christian Parker. Miller, who recorded nine sacks in 2025 while with the Washington Commanders, aims to bring his experience to Dallas.
Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer expressed confidence in Miller's abilities, stating that he possesses a sharp football intellect and still has a quick burst of speed. Schottenheimer noted that while Miller may not play every down, his presence will enhance the team's defensive performance.
"He understands the game; the football intellect is top tier," Schottenheimer remarked, emphasizing Miller's understanding of angles and his variety of moves.
In 2025, Miller participated in 17 games for the Commanders, starting three and logging 420 snaps, which accounted for 37 percent of the team's defensive plays. In Dallas, it is expected that he will have a similar role, likely coming in during critical situations such as third downs while other players handle early downs.
Miller's career highlights include being selected second overall in the 2011 NFL Draft out of Texas A&M and winning the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year award after his first season. He has also earned Super Bowl MVP honors and secured two Super Bowl titles, one with the Denver Broncos and another with the Los Angeles Rams.
