The Houston Texans placed linebacker Henry To'oTo'o on injured reserve ahead of Week 2 after he sustained an apparent shoulder injury against the Buffalo Bills. He left late in the fourth quarter and was later seen wearing a splint.
Coach DeMeco Ryans said To'oTo'o was expected to miss significant time and had not ruled out an IR designation. The move became official Tuesday after Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 and Sports Talk 790 reported Monday night that it was expected. To'oTo'o is projected to be out for a few months, longer than the four-game minimum associated with injured reserve.
Jake Hansen is expected to replace To'oTo'o as a starting linebacker alongside Pro Bowl selection Azeez Al-Shaair. Hansen took over during the rest of the opener and played seven defensive snaps. He has made four starts and recorded 391 defensive snaps during his first five NFL seasons.
Wade Woodaz could move into the No. 3 linebacker role and see time in the base defense. He did not play defensively in the opener but participated in 22 special teams snaps. Woodaz is also recovering from a preseason thumb injury that required surgery and is wearing a protective brace.
The Texans also could have seventh-round pick Aidan Fisher available for Week 2 after he was inactive as a healthy scratch in the opener. Jamal Hill could be elevated from the practice squad to the active roster.
