SMU senior Enzo Panozzo received his first Atlantic Coast Conference weekly award after the Mustangs defeated NC State 1-0. The conference announced Tuesday that Panozzo was selected as co-defensive player of the week with Notre Dame’s Blake Kelly.
Panozzo scored the only goal in SMU’s ACC home opener and led the defense as captain. NC State managed eight shots, with two on target, while the Mustangs posted their fifth shutout of the season. The award is SMU’s second conference weekly honor this season.
SMU moved to No. 3 in the United Soccer Coaches poll following the victory. The Mustangs are 7-0-1 overall and 2-0-0 in ACC play. Their next conference match is scheduled for Sunday at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia.
