Streets around City Hall close Sunday evening for a charity walk, and mosquito spraying returns to three neighborhoods

Drivers headed to Frisco Square on Sunday, Nov. 8, will find most of its streets blocked for the Light The Night walk-a-thon, and residents of three neighborhoods can expect overnight mosquito spraying both weekend nights, under two notices the city posted Friday.

Sunday closures

All streets surrounding Simpson Plaza close at 3:30 p.m. and stay closed until 8:30 p.m., the city said. During that window, cars cannot reach the front entrance of City Hall or drive around the square, and Coleman Boulevard can be entered only from the north.

A second set of closures south of City Hall starts at 6 p.m. and covers Page Street at Library Street, Jacobs Street, Burnham Street and part of South Library Street. Those roads are expected to reopen by 8 p.m.

Walkers and spectators can park in the Frisco Square garage west of Coleman Boulevard or in the municipal garage behind City Hall. The city says the municipal garage can be reached only from Page Street until the 6 p.m. closures take effect; after that, the only way in is from the west by way of northbound Dallas Parkway.

Every level of the municipal garage has ADA parking next to the elevator.

From 6 to 8 p.m., anyone going to the Heritage Center, a nearby restaurant or homes east of Library Street should use Main Street and John W. Elliott Drive, or Dallas Parkway and Cotton Gin Road, the notice says. The city posted a closure and detour map with the announcement.

Spraying Saturday and Sunday nights

The city's contractor will ground spray from 9 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, to 5 a.m. Sunday, and again from 9 p.m. Sunday to 5 a.m. Monday, weather permitting, after one mosquito sample collected this week tested positive for West Nile virus.

The spraying covers the Miramonte, Prairie View and Collinsbrook Farm neighborhoods. The city says the latest result brings Frisco to 18 positive mosquito pools this year, and no human West Nile cases have been confirmed in the city in 2026.

Frisco tests mosquitoes from May 1 through Nov. 15 under its surveillance plan. Health officials repeat the state's advice: wear long sleeves and pants outside at dawn and dusk, use a repellent containing DEET, picaridin or oil of lemon eucalyptus, and drain standing water from bird baths, gutters, plant saucers and similar spots. Questions go to the city's Health & Food Safety Division at 972-292-5304.
