This legal development places Texas Tech forward Jamichael Stillwell in an ineligible position, disrupting his planned transition to the Red Raiders program.
Stillwell, a former UCF player, had successfully recruited to Lubbock after Grant McCasland announced his intention to play a fifth year. The move was initially secured through a courtroom victory that allowed athletes from the 2022 recruiting class to claim an additional year of eligibility under revised NCAA guidelines.
However, the NCAA has consistently challenged these decisions, seeking to reverse the rulings that granted the extra season.
The latest court action in Georgia marks a significant shift for athletes who relied on state-specific injunctions. According to a report by Jon Rothstein, the stay currently renders five key players ineligible: RJ Godfrey of Arizona, Chauncey Wiggins of Gonzaga, Jamichael Stillwell of Texas Tech, Dillon Hunter of Clemson, and Dan Skillings of Grand Canyon.
This situation mirrors the recent experience of fellow Texas Tech player Donovan Atwell, who was also halted by a stay granted in Colorado. While Atwell is currently pursuing a temporary injunction in Lubbock County with a hearing scheduled for October 15, Stillwell had previously sought a personal injunction in Georgia rather than relying on the broader Colorado ruling.
