The Houston Texans have elevated George Odum from their practice squad for the team’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals, giving the veteran safety and special teams player his second such call-up this season.
Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 reported Sept. 19 that Houston was bringing back Odum, who played 71% of the Texans’ special teams snaps against the Buffalo Bills and recorded a tackle. Houston lost that game 36-31.
Odum is in his ninth NFL season and has played for the Indianapolis Colts and San Francisco 49ers. He has earned All-Pro recognition with both teams, one honor from each. The report listed him with 205 career tackles, three interceptions, four forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries.
Elsewhere, his career totals were listed as 209 tackles, three interceptions, four forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries, with 12 starts in 109 games.
Caleb Bullock and Reed Blankenship are healthy, but the Texans are adding Odum for his special teams work. Head coach DeMeco Ryans previously praised Odum’s ability to make plays during the preseason.
Pro Football Focus ranked Odum 26th among 29 Houston special teams players for the Buffalo game, though the report noted that the service’s overall grade does not show how he performed in each individual phase.
