Kevin Jennings, the standout quarterback for the SMU Mustangs, is anticipated to play in the season opener against the Florida State Seminoles. This comes after he injured his finger earlier this month when it got caught in a locker room door during fall camp.
Head coach Rhett Lashlee expressed optimism regarding Jennings' recovery, confirming that the redshirt senior has resumed throwing without any pain. Lashlee mentioned that Jennings is expected to have a complete two weeks to prepare for the game, with the goal of being fully ready by kickoff.
Lashlee provided an update on Jennings' condition, stating, "He is doing well, without pain, and we are integrating him back into practice this week. We expect him to be ready for game one." According to reports from ESPN's Pete Thamel, Jennings has started throwing again as he moves closer to a return.
The injury was not deemed serious, and his return is crucial for SMU's performance this season. Last year, Jennings recorded impressive statistics, including 3,641 passing yards and 26 touchdowns, though he also led the ACC with 13 interceptions, indicating an area for improvement as the new season approaches.
