Quantrill’s Dominant Outing
Cal Quantrill delivered a masterclass in efficiency, pitching seven scoreless innings to lead the Texas Rangers past the Washington Nationals. Quantrill (5-4) allowed just four hits and walked none while striking out five batters. His performance kept the Nationals off the board entirely, securing the win for Arlington.
The Rangers’ bullpen maintained the perfect game. Robby Ahlstrom pitched two-thirds of an inning, allowing two hits but no runs with two strikeouts. Jakob Junis worked one-third of an inning, retiring the side in order with a strikeout before handing the ball to Tyler Alexander. Alexander closed out the game with a clean inning, walking one batter and striking out one.
Early Runs Define Contest
Texas established control early, loading the bases against Washington starter Jackson Kent (0-1). Kent struggled from the outset, giving up eight hits and five earned runs over 3.2 innings while walking three and striking out three.
The scoring began in the first inning when Marcus Seager hit into a groundball double play. Despite the outs at second and first, Corey Seager (noted as Burger in scoring sequence context but referred to by team action) scored on the play, giving Texas a 1-0 lead.
In the second, Josh Jung homered to left field, a 400-foot shot that extended the Rangers’ advantage to 2-0. Washington attempted to rally in the third inning, but their efforts were thwarted by Texas defense and timely hitting.
The Rangers added three more runs in the third. First, Michael Langford scored on a groundball fielder’s choice by Starling Marte, making it 3-0 after a challenge by Washington was upheld. Later in the frame, Jung walked, allowing Seager to score from second base for a 4-0 lead.
