Texas A&M Aggies head coach Mike Elko confirmed that wide receiver Madden Williams will not play for the rest of the 2026 season due to a lower-body injury sustained during practice, necessitating surgery. This injury is part of a troubling trend for the Aggies, as Williams becomes the third wide receiver unavailable before the season has officially begun.
In addition to Williams, safety Tawfiq Byard was also not in uniform for the season opener against Missouri State. Earlier in fall camp, Jonah Wilson left the roster after transferring from Houston, and Jerome Myles was announced to be leaving the program due to personal reasons. Myles, a former five-star recruit, did not play in any games last season after being sidelined by injury.
With Williams out, Texas A&M will depend on primary receivers Mario Craver, Isaiah Horton, and Ashton Bethel-Roman. The absence of Williams provides a chance for other players to step up, including true freshman Aaron Gregory, who caught a 15-yard touchdown pass in the opener. Kelshaun Johnson and TK Norman will also see increased opportunities, with Johnson recording three catches for 25 yards against Missouri State.
The team is expected to finalize its wide receiver depth chart in the upcoming games before facing LSU in Baton Rouge.
