Deciding Runs in Extra Innings

The San Diego Padres secured a 6-4 victory over the Texas Rangers on Saturday, June 20, 2026, thanks to a decisive offensive burst in the 10th inning. Manny Machado provided the game-winning hit, launching a three-run home run to left-center field that measured 408 feet. The blast gave San Diego a 6-3 lead, effectively sealing the win. Machado added a run on a single play in the same inning when Tatis Jr. scored, and later contributed another run as Taylor crossed the plate on Machado’s homer.

Machado finished the day with five runs batted in, a pivotal contribution that allowed the Padres to overcome a late deficit. His performance included an earlier double in the third inning that scored Tatis Jr. for the game’s opening run, and a groundout in the eighth inning that allowed Tatis Jr. to score again. The Rangers’ final run came in the 10th when Langford reached on an infield single to third, allowing Díaz to score.

Early Scoring and Middle Innings

San Diego jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the third inning when Machado doubled to center field, driving in Tatis Jr. The Rangers answered in the sixth inning, tying the game at 1-1 when Langford doubled to left, scoring Jung. The Padres reclaimed the lead in the seventh inning when Burger homered to right-center field (408 feet), scoring Kelenic to make it 3-1.

The Rangers cut the deficit to one run in the eighth inning when Machado grounded out to third, allowing Tatis Jr. to score. San Diego restored a one-run advantage later in the eighth when Merrill singled to right, scoring Taylor, making the score 3-2. However, the Rangers tied the game at 3-3 in the same inning when Langford reached on an infield single to third, scoring Díaz. This set the stage for the extra-inning drama that would decide the outcome.
