Goldman Sachs is investing approximately $700 million in a new campus in Dallas, which will span 800,000 square feet and accommodate over 5,000 employees. This project is expected to open in 2028 and signifies the firm's growing presence in Texas, where it has operated since 1968.
The expansion of financial firms in Texas is not limited to Goldman Sachs. Other major institutions, including JPMorgan Chase, Morgan Stanley, and BlackRock, have also increased their footprint in the state. The New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq have established operations in Texas, further contributing to the financial industry's growth in the region. Local officials have dubbed this emerging financial hub "Y'all Street."
The appeal of Texas for these firms is primarily due to its favorable business environment, including the absence of a state income tax and a more lenient regulatory framework. Additionally, as affluent households and large companies migrate to Texas, financial institutions are following suit, establishing local banking relationships.
Goldman Sachs partner Aasem Khalil emphasized the welcoming nature of Dallas, while Mayor Eric Johnson highlighted the city's collaborative approach with corporations. However, despite these developments, Dallas is not positioned to rival New York in the immediate future, as the concentration of financial markets remains a significant advantage for Wall Street.
Frisco is about 26 miles north of Dallas.
