McKinney National Airport’s passenger terminal is scheduled to open Nov. 11, with Avelo Airlines’ first flight heading to Fort Myers. McKinney is about 12 miles east of Frisco. Las Vegas and Orlando service is set for Nov. 12, followed by Tampa and Fort Lauderdale on Nov. 19.
The Houston-based airline will add Atlanta and Denver on Dec. 16, with each route operating four times weekly on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. Nashville and New Orleans begin Dec. 17, with two weekly flights on Thursday and Sunday. The additions bring Avelo’s McKinney service to nine cities.
Three Boeing 737-800 aircraft, each with 184 seats, will be assigned to the airport. Flights will run Wednesday through Monday, with no Tuesday service. Tickets are available at AveloAir.com, and the airport is listed as DTX.
The city said the airline is expected to create more than 100 jobs for pilots, flight attendants, aircraft technicians, ground-handling workers and customer service employees. Applications are available at aveloair.com/careers. Ignacio Flores of the FAA Southwest Region presented McKinney Director of Aviation Ken Carley with the airport’s operating certificate.
Carley said construction is weeks from completion, while Avelo founder and CEO Andrew Levy said the added destinations demonstrate the airline’s commitment.
