ARLINGTON, Texas - Dak Prescott spent Sunday rewriting the Cowboys' record book and walking off with a home-opening win.
He completed 26 of 31 passes for 279 yards and four touchdowns with no interceptions as Dallas beat Washington 37-20 at AT&T Stadium, ESPN's box shows. The fourth scoring throw was his 249th career touchdown pass as a Cowboy, one more than Tony Romo's franchise record of 248, the Associated Press reported.
Prescott finished with a 143.8 passer rating and added 26 rushing yards on four carries.
"That made me emotional," Prescott said afterward, per the AP, after receiving the record-breaking ball from CeeDee Lamb. He said he had also been thinking about his late mother before kickoff while weighing the chance of a four-touchdown day. "There's tons of guys that aren't in that locker room that I think about when I break this record.
To see my teammates act that way, to see guys that only have been together for five, six months, have the joy, have the cheers that they do, it was emotional."
Four scores, two targets
Lamb caught both of Prescott's first-half opener and late closer - a 3-yarder in the first quarter and a 24-yarder in the fourth that sealed the final margin - and finished with eight catches for 153 yards. Jake Ferguson took the other two, a 10-yard score before halftime and a 12-yarder after Dee Winters recovered a Washington fumble inside the 20.

Dallas led 17-10 at the half even after Washington reached the Cowboys' 1-yard line with three seconds left. Jayden Daniels left with a dislocated left elbow on that final play, the AP reported, and Marcus Mariota finished under center for the Commanders. Dallas' offense did not stall after the injury timeout. Prescott kept finding Lamb and Ferguson whenever Washington's secondary tightened on the perimeter.
