With Diwali falling on Sunday, Nov. 8, the Frisco Police Department is reminding residents that fireworks are off limits inside the city, for the festival or any other day of the year.
In a post on X this week, the department said it is unlawful to discharge or possess fireworks in Frisco and that violators can face a fine of up to $2,000, according to The American Bazaar and New India Abroad, which both reported the message. The post asked residents to "celebrate the festival of lights safely and legally," The American Bazaar reported.
Not a new rule
The reminder does not add anything to the books. A city ordinance already makes it unlawful "to manufacture, sell, or offer for sale, discharge or possess fireworks of any type," the police department's fireworks page says. The American Bazaar reported that the ban sits in Article III, Section 38-53 of the city code, with the penalty in Section 38-56.
The ordinance covers any device meant to make a visible or audible effect by burning or exploding that federal rules classify as common or special fireworks. The police page names sparklers, firecrackers, fountains and rockets as examples and offers a rule of thumb: if a major retailer inside Frisco cannot sell it, it is probably prohibited.
Professional outdoor displays are handled separately through the Frisco Fire Department.
