The Dallas Cowboys did almost everything needed to leave Rio de Janeiro with a win. They erased an 11-point deficit, took the lead in the fourth quarter and tied the game with seven seconds left. It was not enough.
Lamar Jackson hit Zay Flowers for 27 yards and called timeout with one second remaining, and Tyler Loop drilled a 56-yard field goal as time expired to give the Baltimore Ravens a 34-31 victory Sunday at the Maracanã, before an announced crowd of 72,792 in the NFL's first game in Rio.
The comeback
Dallas started fast. Brandon Aubrey opened the scoring with a 28-yard field goal and Javonte Williams ran in from 2 yards out for a 10-0 lead in the first quarter. Baltimore answered with two Derrick Henry touchdown runs and a Loop field goal, and when Jackson found Chris Moore for a 4-yard score late in the third quarter, the Ravens led 24-13.
The Cowboys came back quickly. Dak Prescott threw a 19-yard touchdown pass to Jake Ferguson, then hit CeeDee Lamb on the two-point conversion to cut it to 24-21. Early in the fourth, KaVontae Turpin ran 9 yards for a touchdown that put Dallas ahead 28-24.
The finish
Baltimore went back in front when Jackson found rookie tight end Matt Hibner for a 2-yard score with 1:30 to play. Prescott then drove Dallas into range, and Aubrey's 23-yard field goal tied it at 31 with seven seconds left, his third of the day.
