The two long balls helped Washington secure an 8-2 win over the Houston Astros at Nationals Park on Wednesday. The victory improved the Nationals' record to 48-46, while the Astros fell to 46-49.
Game Flow
The Nationals struck first in the third inning. Abrams hit a sacrifice fly to left field, allowing Wood to score, giving Washington a 1-0 lead. Shortly after, Lile doubled to left field, and García Jr. scored to extend the advantage to 2-0.
Washington's offense exploded in the fourth inning when García Jr. homered to right center, a 417-foot shot that drove in both Ruiz and Wood. This three-run blast pushed the score to 5-0.
The Nationals added more runs in the fifth inning. Matthews singled to center field, bringing Diaz home for a 6-1 lead after the Astros scored one run on a Diaz single. Abrams then homered to right center, a 415-foot drive, making it 7-1. Lile scored on a groundout by Tena, and Crews scored on a sacrifice fly by Ruiz, bringing the total to 8-1.
