CJ Abrams and Luis García Jr. provided the offensive spark for the Washington Nationals, each hitting their 20th home run of the season. The two long balls helped Washington secure an 8-2 win over the Houston Astros at Nationals Park on Wednesday. The victory improved the Nationals' record to 48-46, while the Astros fell to 46-49.

Game Flow

The Nationals struck first in the third inning. Abrams hit a sacrifice fly to left field, allowing Wood to score, giving Washington a 1-0 lead. Shortly after, Lile doubled to left field, and García Jr. scored to extend the advantage to 2-0.

Washington's offense exploded in the fourth inning when García Jr. homered to right center, a 417-foot shot that drove in both Ruiz and Wood. This three-run blast pushed the score to 5-0.

The Nationals added more runs in the fifth inning. Matthews singled to center field, bringing Diaz home for a 6-1 lead after the Astros scored one run on a Diaz single. Abrams then homered to right center, a 415-foot drive, making it 7-1. Lile scored on a groundout by Tena, and Crews scored on a sacrifice fly by Ruiz, bringing the total to 8-1.

Houston managed a second run in the eighth inning. Allen reached on an infield single to shortstop. Dezenzo scored on a throwing error by shortstop Abrams, and Allen advanced to second, making the final score 8-2.

Pitching Decisions

Foster Griffin earned the win for Washington, pitching seven innings. He allowed one earned run on five hits while striking out nine batters. His line was 10-2 on the season. Orlando Ribalta and Justin Lawrence each pitched an inning of scoreless relief to close out the game.

Spencer Arrighetti took the loss for Houston. He pitched four innings, allowing eight earned runs on seven hits and six walks, while striking out two. His record dropped to 7-5. Alimber Santa pitched two innings, allowing one hit and one walk. Nate Pearson and Cristian Javier each pitched one inning of relief, with Pearson striking out one and Javier issuing two walks.
