A Dominant Home Performance
The Houston Cougars opened their 2026-27 campaign with a commanding 94-55 victory over the visiting La Salle Explorers on Monday, November 2, at the Fertitta Center. The home team established a significant early lead, outscoring the Explorers 43-23 in the first half to set the tone for the remainder of the contest.
With 7,035 spectators in attendance, the Cougars displayed offensive efficiency and defensive pressure that left La Salle struggling to find consistent rhythm.
Key Contributions
Dedan Thomas Jr. was the primary engine for Houston, finishing with a game-high 16 points and distributing five assists. His playmaking was crucial in moving the ball to open shooters, highlighting the team’s offensive cohesion. Delrecco Gillespie provided a strong presence on the glass, securing seven rebounds for the Cougars.
On the other side of the ball, La Salle’s Kam Burton led the Explorers in scoring with 15 points, while RJ Smith facilitated the offense with five assists. Bowyn Beatty contributed seven rebounds for the visitors, but their efforts were not enough to close the gap against the home squad.
