Four Frisco ISD volleyball teams took the court Tuesday night in the area round of the UIL playoffs. One came out of it still playing.

Reedy lost the first set to Burleson 25-23 and then took control, winning 25-9, 25-20 and 25-14 to close out a 3-1 victory in Class 5A Division I, according to results compiled by the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. MaxPreps lists the Lions at 30-6 with 15 consecutive wins.

Memorial, Centennial and Wakeland were all eliminated the same night. Memorial and Centennial each held a set lead before losing.

Reedy's next step

The Lions advance to a regional semifinal Thursday, Nov. 5, against Amarillo Tascosa, according to MaxPreps and Press Pass Sports. Tascosa swept El Paso High 25-11, 25-15, 25-12 on Monday night in Monahans, Press Pass Sports reported. MaxPreps lists the Rebels at 28-14, while Press Pass Sports has them at 28-15.

Reedy's season already carries a program first. The Lions went 12-0 in District 6-5A, their first unbeaten run through district play and their first district title since 2021, Frisco ISD said in an Oct. 28 playoff preview. Reedy was the Class 5A state runner-up in 2022.

Reedy opened the postseason by beating Azle in the bi-district round.

Memorial pushes Celina to five

Memorial came closer than anyone to joining Reedy. The Warriors lost the first set to Celina 25-23, then won the next two, 26-24 and 25-16, to lead the Class 5A Division II match 2-1 at Walnut Grove High School in Prosper. Celina answered 25-23 in the fourth and won the deciding set 15-12, Star Local Media reported.

Celina is in its first season in Class 5A. In its final years in 4A the program had reached at least the third round eight straight years, with three trips to the state tournament, according to Star Local Media.

The loss closes a breakthrough season for Memorial, which shared the District 11-5A title with Centennial. Frisco ISD said it was the first time Memorial had earned a share of a district title. "They're gritty and scrappy," Memorial coach Jami Dover said in the district's preview. "They're such a great group."

Centennial and Wakeland exit

Centennial won its opener against McKinney North 25-16 at Allen High School, but the Bulldogs took the next three sets 25-21, 25-18 and 25-23, according to the Star-Telegram's results. Both teams entered as district champions, Star Local Media reported. Centennial won six straight district titles from 2009 to 2014, according to Frisco ISD.

Wakeland, the district's only Class 6A Division II entry, fell to Plano 25-23, 25-17, 23-25, 25-12 at Walnut Grove. The Wolverines forced a fourth set by taking the third, but Plano pulled away late. MaxPreps lists Wakeland's final record at 23-19.

What is left

Seven Frisco ISD teams opened the playoffs last week across three brackets, the district said. Reedy is the only one left.

A win Thursday would put the Lions in a regional final, two steps from the state tournament in Garland. Elsewhere in the region's bracket, El Paso Chapin beat Amarillo High in five sets Tuesday in Seminole, Press Pass Sports reported, ending a 32-10 season for the District 3-5A champions.
