Frisco ISD will let families pay for a seat on a school bus when their children don't qualify for district-provided transportation, the district announced Thursday.

The new fare-based busing service fills empty seats on existing routes. Routes and stops won't change to accommodate riders, and seats are offered only where buses have room, according to the district.

The fee for the 2026-27 school year is $500 per student, or $175 per student for families in the free and reduced meal program. The fee is nonrefundable.

Applications open Monday, Nov. 2. The district says it can take up to 10 business days to process an application, and families will be told by email whether they were approved or denied. Approved families pay through Online School Fees and then find their route information in the My Ride K-12 app.

To be eligible, a student must attend a school inside the attendance boundary the school board assigned them to.

The service is offered at 29 campuses for now:

  • Elementary schools: Comstock, Elliott, Rogers and Sem
  • Middle schools: Clark, Fowler, Griffin, Hunt, Lawler, Maus, Nelson, Pearson, Pioneer Heritage, Roach, Scoggins, Trent and Wester, plus Wortham Intermediate
  • High schools: Centennial, Emerson, Frisco, Heritage, Independence, Lebanon Trail, Lone Star, Memorial, Panther Creek, Reedy and Wakeland
