Samuel L. Jackson is headlining a new Paramount+ series named for Frisco, and the production has been filming across North Texas, including in the city itself, this spring and summer.
"Frisco King" is a spinoff of the Paramount+ hit "Tulsa King," created and written by Taylor Sheridan. Jackson stars as Russell Lee Washington Jr., a veteran hitman he first played in the final two episodes of "Tulsa King" season three, where the character crossed paths with Sylvester Stallone's Dwight Manfredi. The new series follows Washington as he sets out to build his own criminal enterprise.
The show was originally developed under the title "NOLA King" and set in New Orleans. Paramount+ later changed both the title and the setting, moving the story to North Texas and renaming it for Frisco. Sheridan is writing all eight episodes of the first season.
Production began in Fort Worth in late March and has continued at locations across the region, including Fort Worth, Plano, Dallas, Denton, Keller, Southlake and Frisco, with filming scheduled through July. Alongside Jackson, the cast includes Kai Caster, Asa Germann, Lilah Pate and Savanna Gann. Stallone's role ties the spinoff back to the original series.
Much of the on-location work has relied on local background actors. Legacy Casting, a Texas casting company, has posted a series of calls for extras across the Dallas-Fort Worth area, seeking residents for scenes that have ranged from baseball fans and gas-station pedestrians to warehouse workers and partygoers. Pay rates listed in those calls have varied by role and length of day, from about $110 to $350, with some listings offering additional pay for specific requests, such as bringing a dog.
Paramount+ has not announced a premiere date for "Frisco King."
