Kaylie Davis, a 6-foot-1 senior outside hitter for Frisco Independence, is currently leading area Class 5A players with 278 kills and 221 digs. The team enters its upcoming match against Frisco Centennial with an overall record of 8-12 and a district record of 1-2 in District 11-5A. Davis has verbally committed to play college volleyball at the University of Memphis.
Davis began playing volleyball at age eight after observing players at the Frisco Fieldhouse. She joined the Frisco Flyers club team at age 10 and reached the national tournament championship at age 12, a milestone she credits with solidifying her belief in her collegiate potential.
She describes volleyball as a mental sport, noting that reading opponents and maintaining the right mindset are critical components of success.
One of Davis' most memorable high school matches occurred on August 21 against Keller. In that five-set contest, she recorded 27 kills, which she believes is her personal high school record. Although Independence lost the match, Davis noted that the team put up a strong fight against a highly skilled opponent.
As a senior, Davis is focused on making the playoffs for the first time in her high school career. She acknowledges the difficulty of playing two matches per week but emphasizes that the limited time she has with her teammates drives her to push harder. She describes the district competition as an energy game, where team morale significantly impacts performance.
