Frisco Lone Star maintained its undefeated status with a 35-30 victory over Melissa in their District 5-5AI opener at Coach Kenny Deel Stadium on Friday night. The win keeps Lone Star at 4-0, while Melissa falls to 1-3 in the standings.
The game began with Lone Star establishing an early lead, scoring a 75-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Trey Wright to Zach Forbish on the opening play. Melissa responded immediately on their first drive, with quarterback Turner Wilkie rushing for a one-yard touchdown.
Lone Star built its advantage further through the first half, outscoring the visitors 21-0 in that span to take a 28-14 lead into halftime.
Wright accounted for 393 total yards and five touchdowns during the contest. He passed for 251 yards and rushed for 142. Colen Perry contributed three receptions for 101 yards and a score, while Forbish added two catches for 93 yards and another touchdown. Running back Braxton Wambach also provided significant ground support with 114 rushing yards.
Melissa mounted a comeback attempt after the break, outscoring Lone Star 16-7 in the second half. The Bulldogs narrowed the gap to one score late in the fourth quarter when Wilkie ran for a four-yard touchdown with eight minutes remaining. However, the rally ended when three-star Clemson commit Bryant Robinson secured an interception with just over one minute left in the game.
