Play Frisco will host the grand opening of Northwest Community Park on September 19, from 8 to 10 a.m. The new facility, located at 13770 Teel Parkway, represents a $40 million investment in outdoor recreation for the city’s northwest side.

Construction on the site began in January 2025, and the park is situated north of Panther Creek Parkway, near the PGA of America headquarters and associated golf courses.

Cycling is a central element of the park’s design. The property features dedicated off-road bike trails alongside miles of shared paths intended for cyclists, runners, and hikers. These routes connect various recreation zones, including plazas, gardens, and playgrounds. The layout is designed to accommodate visitors of different ages and abilities, supporting both casual visits and more active physical pursuits.

Family amenities include playgrounds tailored for children ages 2 to 5 and 5 to 12, as well as open green spaces for general play. A splash pad provides an option for cooling off, while separate dog park areas are designated for both small and large dogs.

The park also emphasizes the preservation of the local ecosystem. It incorporates restored and enhanced areas of Blackland Prairie, a native Texas landscape that has become less common due to regional development. Native plant gardens and prairie areas are intended to provide wildlife habitat and allow visitors to observe the natural environment.

An observation deck overlooks the prairie, and interpretive features throughout the site offer educational information about the region’s ecological history.

The September 19 celebration will include a ribbon-cutting ceremony, a fun run, a bike ride, and refreshments. Following the morning event, the park will remain open for visitors to explore its trails and amenities throughout the day.
