A Midland Rockhounds outfielder has undergone spinal surgery following a serious injury sustained during a minor league baseball game in Frisco, Texas. The incident occurred on Tuesday in the bottom of the third inning when Ryan Lasko collided head-first with a teammate while attempting to catch a ball.

Lasko did not move immediately after the impact and was treated by medical staff at the stadium before being transported to a hospital. The Oakland Athletics organization, which lists Lasko as a prospect, confirmed that he suffered a fracture of the C6-C7 vertebrae. He underwent spinal decompression and stabilization surgery overnight and is currently in stable condition.

Athletics General Manager David Forst stated that he has communicated with Lasko’s mother, Patti, to convey the organization’s support. Forst noted that the entire system is keeping the family in their thoughts and that medical reports from the treating physician are encouraging. He added that the team will continue to direct all medical resources toward supporting Lasko’s recovery.

The Frisco Roughriders, the host team, posted a message on social media expressing their support for Lasko and the Rockhounds organization. Following the game, players from both teams gathered in a prayer circle.

Details regarding Lasko’s long-term prognosis or the specific circumstances of the collision beyond the initial impact were not provided in the available updates. Further information on his rehabilitation timeline is not yet clear.
